Tread Softly

The ecologically and culturally rich site is under threat due to a lack of accessibility which forces well-meaning users to create their own paths to engage with the landscape. This low-lying site is also threatened by rising sea levels caused by climate change. In response, the design proposes a breaching of the seawall and managed retreat as part of a series of walkable spaces which gesture to the landscape through art installations. The expansion of this valuable habitat provides defence against rising sea levels and creates areas in which users can engage with the landscape with sensitivity.
