Increasing community cohesion in Thaxted
Thaxted is affected by the change stressors of climate change and increasing population. The historic town has grown organically losing blue and green spaces and connectivity along the way. The new design reconnects the town with physical and biophilic connections creating new salutogenic spaces. It has a new shared space route connecting a new tree lined market square to Holst Place, named to celebrate the life of composer Gustav Holst. Here the round, a small outdoor arena has regular concerts, fountain play or ice skating. Carparking goes underground with rooftop vegetable beds above it. An old walled garden is repurposed as a secret garden with fairy walks and weddings. Holst place is completed with a new community centre.
