Art by Louise Wells (BA (Hons) Contemporary Art & Design
Welcome to the Writtle University College Design Degree Show 2020.
The exhibition features the work of students from Art & the Environment, Contemporary Art & Design, Landscape Architecture & Garden Design and Professional Floristry & Floral Design at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Art & Design students have constructed their own website, with help from sponsorship by WUC Students' Union, which includes an interactive 3D Virtual Exhibition, and plenty more besides, so do check that out. You can find all of the exhibitions in the menu or at the links below.
During the event you will be able to take part in the Essex Gardens Trust People's Choice Award by voting for your favourite Landscape Architecture & Garden Design (LAGD) student project. Voting runs from 12pm on Wednesday 27th May to 12pm on Friday 29th May (UTC+1). There are also other LAGD Awards that will be chosen by the sponsors of the LAGD exhibition - CED Stone Group, Fabrik and Gillespies. You can see all sponsors below.
If you have any questions for the students about their work, you can add a comment onto their page or connect with them using one of their networking links.
And finally, the artwork use for all promotional material created for the WUC Design Degree Show 2020 was created by Louise Wells, a BA (Hons) Contemporary Art & Design student who won our annual student art competition.
Opening address from Vice Chancellor Professor Tim Middleton
As the Vice-Chancellor of Writtle University College, I am delighted to welcome you all to the Design Degree Show for 2020. I ask you to join me in celebrating our students’ outstanding creativity and ingenuity, amply demonstrated throughout this exhibition.
Not only have the class of 2020 worked so hard to produce a range of outstanding work in the fields of art and design, landscape architecture and garden design, and professional floristry, but they’ve had to do so in very challenging circumstances, to which they’ve had to adapt very quickly. All of the students have had to learn to work remotely to stage this exhibition, and I’m proud of their technological expertise, their resilience, and their ability to respond resourcefully even in these most challenging of circumstances. The art and design students in particular have created their own exhibition website with an interactive, virtual exhibition, in which to display their work.
I’d also like to thank those members of staff whose guidance and unstinting support has helped the students work through to present this exhibition. Through their work, they will enable our graduates to achieve their course objectives, and support them as they graduate into a new world, equipped with knowledge and skills to ensure they have a bright future.
On behalf of the university college, I’d like to thank this year’s generous sponsors. The Art and Design exhibition has once again received sponsorship from the Writtle University College Students’ Union, whilst the Landscape Architecture and Garden Design have been sponsored by CED Stone Group, Fabrik, and Gillespies, who have all sponsored student achievement awards, the Essex Gardens Trust have again sponsored a People’s Choice Award, so do look out to see how you can vote for your favourite project in this year’s show.
We’re also extremely grateful for the support we’ve received throughout out the year from members of the local creative community, including the Chelmsford Window Gallery and Chelmsford Creative Collective. We would also like to acknowledge the continued support from the International Federation of Landscape Architects, the Landscape Institute, the Society of Garden Designers, and all of the industry contacts who have been involved with our Landscape Talks lecture series.
This year’s Design Degree Show is truly a testament to the talent of our students and demonstrates the success we can all achieve when we work together as a learning community.
I hope you enjoy this year’s show, and we look forward to reading your comments about the work of our talented students. Thank you for attending and enjoy the show.
